The sui blockchain experienced a significant disruption on January 15, 2026, with a six-hour network outage that halted all transactions. The shutdown was triggered by a consensus failure, though the root cause has not yet been disclosed by the Sui Foundation. This incident marks the layer-1 network's second major outage since its 2023 launch, following a two-hour disruption in November 2024.

Remarkably, the SUI token showed notable resilience during the downtime. The digital asset briefly spiked 4% before stabilizing NEAR $1.84, indicating strong investor confidence in the network's recovery capabilities. Core developers implemented a fix by 8:44 pm UTC, restoring full functionality.

Network operators maintained transparency throughout the event, providing regular updates to their 1.1 million social media followers. A comprehensive post-mortem analysis is expected in the coming days, which may reveal critical insights into the network's consensus mechanism vulnerabilities.
